Ovulation itself typically happens 24 to 36 hours after the surge begins, usually somewhere near the peak or shortly after.
The challenge is that this entire window is short relative to a 28-to-35-day cycle, which means the margin for testing at the wrong time is real.

- Look for a rising trend, not just a single high reading, since the climb itself is informative even before a clear peak.
- Expect the fertile window to extend a day or two past your peak reading, since ovulation often happens slightly after the highest point.
